Péru

Continuing my relationship with Edukid that started in 2010 this was my first trip to Péru. The charity work with the Indigenous Awajun Community in the Amazonas region.

Although school is free in Peru, many of these families could not afford clothes and a meal each day, meaning some of the children were finding it hard to stay awake during lessons. Many of the children had also travelled far from their home village to attend the primary school and were living alone because they could not afford the journey each day.

Edukid works alongside the local community and now provides daily nutritional meal to students at school, as well as working to establish safer accommodation for students living alone.
